KLUANG, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Johor-Palestine Tabung Kasih 2.0, which was launched in July, has reached the collection target of RM2.5 million, said state Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

Mohd Fared said the fund, among other things, could help provide food for 15,000 Palestinians for 30 days in Gaza.

"Johor Menteri Besar (Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi) has also ordered that this fund be continued because there is very little food in the refugee camps.

"So we recommend (all parties) to continue donating so that we can send donations every month to help them," he said at a press conference after attending the Semarak Subuh and Palestine Solidarity programme at Jamek Taman Kasih Mosque near here, today.

Also present were Onn Hafiz and Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said the aid will be sent by sea, from Tanjung Pelepas Port, Gelang Patah.

Regarding today's programme, Mohd Fared said the programme which brought together more than 3,500 congregants is aimed at helping Palestinians who are facing the atrocity of the Zionist Israeli regime, regardless of their political leanings.

Earlier, Onn Hafiz also inspected the process of packing aid items for Palestinians, besides flagging off participants of the 'Walk For Palestine' which involved a 1.5 kilometre route around the mosque.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (lMAHAR) president cum chairman of Ops Ihsan secretariat, Jismi Johari said that Johor-Palestine Tabung Kasih  2.0 assistance also involves providing tents, basic necessities apart from hot food in Palestinian camps.

"For today we can see the packaging of goods consisting of two types of packs, namely 2,000 packs of personal hygiene kits and 2,000 packs of baby necessities including disposable nappies," he said.
