SABAH GOV’T APPROVES RM2.5 MLN MARKET IN BELURAN

BELURAN, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government, through the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), has greenlit the construction of a two-storey public market building in Beluran town with an allocated budget of RM2.5 million.

The project is slated for completion by May next year, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said, adding that the project will include essential facilities such as a prayer room and toilets, benefiting 70 local traders while enhancing convenience for shoppers.

He said the current open-lot market, housing 51 traders and built in 2002, has become outdated and insufficient for the growing needs of the community, necessitating a more spacious, organised and comfortable marketplace.

“In this regard, I urge timely completion of this two-storey market project as part of our commitment to elevate the socio-economic conditions in this district and cater to the needs of Beluran residents,” he said today.

In his speech, delivered by Deputy Chief Minister II and State Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam, Hajiji also stressed the government's pledge to provide conducive business environments across Sabah, supporting Bumiputera entrepreneurs and advancing local economic goals.

He reiterated that the Sabah government is committed to providing organised and comfortable business facilities to Bumiputera entrepreneurs in various districts to boost the local economy and achieve the objectives of Sabah Maju Jaya.

Hajiji encouraged department heads and community leaders in Beluran to oversee the efficient execution of planned developments, ensuring all expenditures are justified for the benefit of locals.
