KUANTAN, June 21 (Bernama) -- A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) has been implemented to enhance the safety of users of the Federal Route (FT12) at Section 102 of the Kuantan-Segamat Highway, according to the Public Works Department (JKR).
JKR said this includes the installation of temporary signs (diversion, speed limit and weight limit) to give information and early warnings and the provision of temporary road lines and barriers in both directions.
“JKR has also implemented additional initiatives such as installing speed bumps to reduce vehicle speed limits and installing solar lights around the diversion route to improve lighting and safety levels, especially at night,” it said in a statement today.
The statement was issued in response to an accident on the temporary diversion route involving a lorry driver who died at the scene after his vehicle skidded and plunged into a sinkhole near a Bailey bridge on Wednesday (June 19).
In early January, the route was closed to all vehicles due to the subsidence of the Bebo arch culvert structure caused by flooding. Consequently, a diversion route and a temporary bridge (Bailey bridge) were constructed to ensure the road network remained connected.
JKR extended its condolences to the victim's family and urged all road users on the route to be more cautious and adhere to the instructions and speed limits set for the safety of all.
