KEDA TO HELP LESS ACADEMICALLY INCLINED STUDENTS TO PURSUE TVET

27/06/2024 09:17 PM

SUNGAI PETANI, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) has taken an initiative to support Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 holders who did not perform well academically, to pursue studies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Its general manager, Ismasuhaimi Shariff, expressed pride in the outstanding achievements of several students while emphasising the importance of providing opportunities for those with less encouraging SPM results.

“We are opening doors for students who may not excel academically to explore TVET and skills training opportunities.

“TVET offers pathways to secure employment with better salaries, as they enter the workforce,” he told reporters after the SPM 2023 Academic Excellence Appreciation for KEDA rural students, in Sungai Pasir, today.

He highlighted that KEDA’s approach aims to cater to both academically strong students and those with an interest in vocational skills, ensuring a comprehensive strategy to support educational and career pathways.

“We will guide them to make the right choices... SPM marks the beginning of their life journey, and the demand for skilled labour is high,” he said, adding that a total of 25 KEDA rural students, who achieved excellent results in SPM 2023, were celebrated at the event.

In another development, Ismasuhaimi said that KEDA, in collaboration with the state education department (JPNK), will implement the ‘Tuisyen Pintar@KEDA’ and ‘100 Permata Negeri Kedah’ programmes, with a total allocation of RM450,000.

“The ‘Tuisyen Pintar@KEDA’ covers 113 schools statewide, under the Pewaris empowerment (GEN) programme, to produce 100 outstanding students who obtain A's in all subjects,” he said.

He also said that, through the ‘100 Permata Negeri Kedah’ initiative, the state education department will identify 100 promising Form 3 students in 2024, and provide them with guidance, monitoring, and specialised training to excel in SPM in 2026.
