KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Visitors of the National Training Week (NTW) 2024 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here had the opportunity to witness a self-defence demonstration and participate in a music therapy session in addition to attending various other courses on skills development.

The demonstration to protect oneself against snatched thieves conducted by WSS Sdn Bhd, a security company, drew visitors’ attention, especially women.

The company’s assistant manager Mohd Suhaimi Ahmad Badry said the demonstration also included some visitors to ensure their understanding of the basic techniques.

“The training focuses on women, where we reveal vulnerable points on the human body that can be targeted,” he said.

Mohd Suhaimi said a demonstration involving personal bodyguards during attacks was also conducted as part of the promotion to recruit new bodyguards, adding that the training is recognised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp).

According to him, the company provides armed personal bodyguard services, and currently has 60 trained personal bodyguards, with a small number of them being women.

“Several visitors have expressed their interest in becoming personal bodyguards. We will hold interviews to assess their suitability,” he added.

Visitors also showed interest in music education for neurodiverse groups, such as children with slow learning abilities, dyslexia and speech problems conducted by RSM Music Academy.

Its academic director, Tanne Toh, said music education can enhance cognitive skills, coordination and critical thinking for individuals, especially those who are differently-abled.

“These special individuals have difficulties expressing their emotions, so they do it by playing music. For instance, they will play music more forcefully when angry,” said Toh.

The two-day event that kicked off yesterday aims to promote lifelong learning among the people with free training and courses.
