03/07/2024 12:20 PM

VANCOUVER, July 3 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Canada's second-largest airline, the WestJet Group, said on Tuesday that it has begun ramping up its operations following the end of strike that led to over 1,000 flight cancellations, reported Xinhua.

The full resumption of operations will take time and further cancellations will be required over the coming days, WestJet stated on its website.

There will be 27 flights to be cancelled on Tuesday, the airline said.

According to the company, as a result of the active labour disruption that began on Friday and concluded on Sunday, WestJet parked 130 of its 180 aircraft.  A total of 1,078 flight cancellations caused by the strike impacted more than 100,000 passengers.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, representing about 670 WestJet maintenance engineers, began the strike action on Friday afternoon.
