SG BAKAP BY-ELECTION: FENCE-SITTERS WILL SHIFT SUPPORT TO PH-BN - CIKGU JOOHARI

03/07/2024 08:44 PM

NIBONG TEBAL, July 3 (Bernama) -- Voters who are still undecided will return to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Sungai Bakap state by-election on Saturday, said PH's by-election Dr Joohari Ariffin.

He said the shift in support was based on the positive response received from fence-sitting voters during the campaign period, thus showing their inclination to choose PH-BN.

"There are various factors that tend to occur, including the (competence) of the candidate and the efforts of the hardworking campaign machinery. I am most respectful of the contribution of our machinery.

"... that's why, I'm sure they will turn around (return to support) as they did in the previous elections. As for the white (voters), God willing (will still support PH)," he said.

He was met by reporters after holding a Ziarah Kasih programme to the home of a former Marine Department employee in Kampung Permatang Ara, Sungai Jawi, here today.

Also joining him in the programme was Datuk Mustapha Sakmud who is Sabah Party Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) State Leadership Council chairman and Deputy Minister of Higher Education.

With only three days left in the campaign, Joohari said they have almost finished reaching out to all voters, including physically and online, and hoped it would contribute to the high turnout of 80 per cent.

The former teacher also said that if he wins on July 6, it will be the most meaningful gift as he will be celebrating his birthday on July 17.

This Saturday's Sungai Bakap state by-election is seeing Joohari battling Nibong Tebal PAS vice-president Abidin Ismail representing Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a straight fight which was held following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to inflammation in the stomach.
