TAIWAN SEEKS MALAYSIAN COLLABORATION TO BOOST GREEN BUILDING MATERIALS INDUSTRY

04/07/2024 10:16 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- Taiwan is looking forward to collaborate with Malaysia's industry players to build a resilient green building materials ecosystem.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia Economic Division director James Chang said Malaysia's manufacturing sector, driven by robust export-oriented processing industries, accounts for a significant proportion of its gross domestic product (GDP) and faces pressure to improve energy efficiency.

“To address this, we are excited to feature innovative products at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion,” he said during the opening speech at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion at the Malaysia International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Materials Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) today.

Chang also noted that Malaysia-Taiwan bilateral trade reached an impressive US$8.8 billion in the first quarter of this year, marking a significant 31 per cent growth compared to the same period in 2023 (US$1 = RM4.70).

One of the exhibitors, E-Ink Holdings Inc, aims to enter the Malaysian market with its versatile displays for eReaders, retail, healthcare, logistics and more. The company’s electrophoretic display products revolutionise ePaper, aiding sustainability efforts with low-power consumption.

E-Ink's senior director of product marketing Albert Liang said the company is seeking to partner with local companies and manufacturers.

“We understand Malaysian designers are very creative, and we hope to find a designer to work with us. We are also looking for manufacturing partners to design with ePaper,” he added.

The company has research and development (R&D) centres in the United States, Taiwan, China and Japan, and manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Japan.

The Taiwan Excellence Pavilion featured 21 green products from 11 award-winning companies, aiming to create a new era of bilateral sustainable cooperation between Taiwan and Malaysia. The pavilion was jointly organised by the International Trade Administration (TITA), the Bureau of Foreign Trade, and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

This year, with the theme ‘Greener Together’, TITA and TAITRA created an innovative pavilion design evoking the imagery of Taiwan as a kingdom of mountains and forests. The event, which began today, will run until Saturday.

Working with the concept of Recycle, Reuse and Reduce, the organisers creatively used recyclable materials such as aluminium extrusions combined with breathable canvas in the booth design, greatly reducing waste without sacrificing aesthetics.

The E-Ink PRISM ePaper products, incorporated into the design, provide a dynamic display for logos and other visual assets, creating a visual attraction for the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion.
