MALAYSIA PROPOSES SPECIAL PROGRAMME AT AL-AZHAR UNIVERSITY FOR JAKIM'S DARUL QURAN GRADUATES

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) – Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has proposed a special programme at Al-Azhar University’s Kulliyyah Al-Quran Al-Karim in Tanta Campus in Egypt – specifically for graduates of the Darul Quran Diploma in Tahfiz Al-Quran & Al-Qiraat from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

He made this statement during a courtesy visit on Thursday by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Professor Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ahmad El-Tayeb, in conjunction with his working visit to Malaysia from July 2-5.

“I also suggested to the Grand Imam that the entry requirements for Darul Quran graduates to the Kulliyyah Al-Ulum Al-Islamiyyah be changed to holders of the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and the Darul Quran diploma only,” he said.

Currently, the entry requirement for the kulliyyah for Darul Quran diploma graduates is an SPM certificate that is valid for three years from the current year.

Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im also expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance of the Grand Imam towards the field of religious studies and Islamic affairs in the country.

“We are grateful for Al-Azhar University's willingness to lend six lecturers to several religious study centres in Malaysia (two at JAKIM’s Darul Quran, two in Sabah, and another two in Sarawak),” he added.

He also mentioned his hope for the ongoing collaboration between JAKIM and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to enhance the skills of students in Quran memorization, Qiraat, Islamic studies, and Arabic language.
