BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 4 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Brunei is ranked 96th out of 167 nations in the 2024 Sustainable Development Report from the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the Xinhua reported citing local daily Borneo Bulletin on Thursday.

According to the report, Brunei scored 67 on its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) index and saw a 1.3-point increase year-on-year.

The SDGs aim to end rampant poverty, lessen inequality, and address environmental degradation by 2030.

The difference between 100 and a country's score represents how much it must overcome to reach optimal SDGs performance. Brunei saw two highly improved categories and is on track to maintain achievements in industry innovation and infrastructure as well as sustainable cities and communities, the daily reported.

Brunei is rich in oil and gas resources with a population of 450,000. The Brunei government launched a vision for the country called "Wawasan Brunei 2035", and committed to promoting economic diversification and sustainable development of the country.
