KUCHING, Sept 23 (Bernama) — The sacrifices of Asyiil Raziin Razman's family to send her for swimming classes at the age of nine in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur was definitely worth every effort since she managed to break the Para Sukma Games record (Para SUKMA) at the age of 14, here today. .

Despite making her maiden appearence in Bumi Kenyalang and the Para Sukma, Asyiil Raziin who represented Kuala Lumpur said she did not feel nervous because he felt that the swimming pool has already 'integrated' with her since young.

“Thank God for blessing to win the gold medal in my first Sukma appearence. There is only one person in my family who swims and my father used to send me for swimming classes and the teacher chose me to represent Kuala Lumpur,” she said when met by Bernama at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Center here today.

The younger of two siblings earlier recorded 1 minute 23.35 seconds (s) to erase the old record of 1:26.29s set by Kedah swimmer Puteri Nur Diyana Megat in 2022, thus witnessing her reaping her first gold medal in the biennial games.

Negeri Sembilan swimmer Aleeya Fariesya Faizul Rizal took the silver medal after recording a time of 1:23.41s while Selangor took the bronze with a time of 1:23.46s through Ainun Hanifah Yulizaruna Affendi.

Meanwhile, national swimmer, Abd Halim Mohammad revealed that composure was the key to his victory and ability to break the national record in the S8 men's 400m freestyle event -S9 (physical impairment) after the Sabah representative recorded 5:21.99s to beat the old record of 5:50.54s set by Rusdianto Rusmadi last year.

“I've never competed in this event so I followed what the coach said but actually being calm really helped. I like the quiet atmosphere because noise makes me lose focus,” he said.

Rusdianto won silver (5:24.27s) while Firdaus Fariduddin took home the bronze with a time of 5:54.24s.

Bernama had earlier reported that Abd Halim is determined to be crowned as the best athlete where he currently has two gold medals through the S8 men's 100m breaststroke event and the S8-S9 men's 400m freestyle event.
