SEVERAL COUNTRIES CONFIRM DECEASED PILGRIMS USED VISIT, TOURISM VISAS

MAKKAH, June 20 (Bernama) -- Several countries have confirmed that many of the deceased pilgrims during this year’s hajj season entered Saudi Arabia on tourism or visit visas months before the hajj rituals began.

According to The Jordan Times citing Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, none of Jordan’s 41 citizens, who passed away during this year’s hajj season and were issued burial permits in Makkah, were part of the official Jordanian Hajj delegation.

A report by Samaa TV quoting Tunisia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad also confirmed that most of the deceased Tunisian pilgrims had entered the Kingdom on tourism, visit, or Umrah visas.

The hajj season in Makkah this year saw unusually high temperatures with many pilgrims arriving on tourism or visit visas from various nationalities.

These pilgrims travelled long distances in the holy city under the scorching sun, without accommodation, food, or transportation services provided by any organisation.

As a result, they were vulnerable to heat exhaustion, sun exposure, and traversing rugged, unpaved paths not designated for pedestrians. These conditions led to the unfortunate deaths of many.
