LANDSLIDE IN INDONESIA'S EAST JAVA CLAIMS 2 LIVES

JAKARTA, July 1 (Bernama) -- A landslide in Blitar, East Java, on Sunday afternoon has left two people dead, one missing, and one seriously injured, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

The incident occurred in Bumirejo village, Kesamben sub-district, due to unstable soil conditions at a height of 20 metres, resulting in a landslide five metres deep.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhairi, in a statement, said the victims included poultry farm workers and the owner of the chicken farm.

“The missing victim has not been found and the search is being conducted by the Blitar district’s Disaster Management Agency.” 

Two heavy machines have been deployed to assist in the search and to clear landslide debris at the affected location.
