AZERBAIJAN CELEBRATES DAY OF STATE SOVEREIGNTY

20/09/2024 03:38 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Azerbaijani people celebrated the Day of State Sovereignty today, in accordance with an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday (Sept 19).

According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Malaysia, the  Day of State Sovereignty is to mark the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty across the entire country.

The statement further said that the Day of State Sovereignty is an annual national holiday.

The one-day operations in Karabakh, launched on Sept 19, 2023 and ended on Sept 20, 2023, finally brought all of Azerbaijan’s territories under its sovereignty.

“Azerbaijan regained full control over its entire territory.The one-day anti-terror operation, led by the Azerbaijani Army under the command of President Ilham Aliyev, the Supreme Commander, restored Azerbaijan's sovereignty,” the statement said.

Since early 1990s, following the conflict with neighbouring Armenia, 20 per cent of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognised territory, including  Karabakh, was under occupation. During the 44-Day War in September 2020, Azerbaijan liberated most of its occupied land and the September 2023 operation culminated in Azerbaijan regaining full control over its entire territory.
