CAMBODIA

 

1. CAMBODIA WITHDRAWS FROM CLV-DTA -- FRESH NEWS

Cambodian has withdrawn from the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) after 25 years of participation in the project. The withdrawal was due to domestic political pressure from the opposition parties and the termination will take effect from September 2024.

 

2. FIRST MAJOR CABINET RESHUFFLE -- KIRIPOST

The National Assembly approved the first major cabinet reshuffle under Prime Minister Hun Manet - after his first anniversary as premier. A new tourism minister was appointed to steer the sector that is a key revenue generator for the country.

1. PASSENGERS BARRED AT VIETNAM AIRPORT RISING -- VIETNAM NEWS

Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority revealed that the number of passengers being refused entry at airports across the country is increasing sharply with 886 travellers last year and 600 in the first half of this year. This was largely due to documentation issues.

 

2. RUBBER EXPORTS REACH US$1.7 BILLION -- VIETNAM NEWS

Vietnam's rubber exports reached more than US$1.7 billion in the first eight months of the year with exports reaching about 1.12 million metric tonnes. Vietnam’s rubber latex production is 1.3 million metric tonnes per year from 910,000 hectares of rubber plantations.

1. INDONESIA HAILS UN WITHDRAWAL RESOLUTION -- THE JAKARTA POST

Indonesia has hailed the recent passage of a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution calling for Israel to end its annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories, noting that it is prepared to support the resolution’s implementation in the conflict-torn region.

 

2. US WILL NOT SANCTION RI OVER NICKEL ‘FORCE LABOR’ -- THE JAKARTA POST

The United Stated Department of Labor has added Indonesian nickel to a list of commodities it “has reason to believe” involve forced labour, but the US Embassy says inclusion on the list, which also suspects child labor in the archipelago, does not imply sanctions.

 

3. BUDI KARYA LAUDS CHINESE INVESTORS FOR SUPPORT IN INDONESIA’S TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE -- THE JAKARTA GLOBE

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Friday acknowledged the crucial role Chinese investors and government agencies have played in advancing Indonesia’s infrastructure projects, particularly in the transportation sector.
