MALAYSIA DAY CELEBRATED IN MEDAN WITH DINNER RECEPTION

JAKARTA, 18 Sept (Bernama) -- The Consulate General of Malaysia (KJM) in Medan hosted a dinner reception on Tuesday, in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day celeberation, attended by 200 invited guests. 

The guests comprised government officials from the provinces of North Sumatra, South Sumatra, and Aceh, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as prominent Indonesian figures from North Sumatra's business, banking, healthcare, and tourism sectors.

In his speech at the event, Consul General of Malaysia in Medan, Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, emphasised that Malaysia will continue to cooperate with Indonesia to address issues of mutual interest, both bilaterally and at the international level.

He also shared Malaysia's progress and achievements, which have gained international recognition, including in the fields of economy and education.

“Malaysia is on the right track to becoming a global higher education hub, with six of its higher education institutions ranked among the top 10 in the ASEAN region, according to the QS World University Rankings 2024," he said.

In his response, the Regional Secretary of North Sumatra Province, Arief S. Trinugroho, stated that the relationship between the two countries is not only a special diplomatic relationship but it is also a true bond of brotherhood.

Arief also expressed his commitment to continue maintaining and enhancing cooperation with Malaysia to face future challenges.

Apart from enjoying traditional Malaysian dishes such as satay, roti canai, roti jala, Penang laksa, nasi lemak, various desserts and teh tarik at the event, the guests were also treated to a cultural performance by the children of diplomats and expatriates, as well as Malaysian students, who showcased traditional attire from various ethnic groups and communities in Malaysia.
