UITM FLAGS OFF 2,000KM CYCLING EXPEDITION FOR 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

SHAH ALAM, June 20 (Bernama) -- As part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations as a university, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) flagged off 12 participants in the Kayuhan Kapsul Rentas Cawangan expedition today.

The expedition, themed Towards Environmental Sustainability, will collect statements of aspirations and wishes from all the branches in the Peninsula, to be encapsulated and embedded into a monument to be unveiled at the UiTM 25th Anniversary Gala Night on Aug 24. 

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr. Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the participants, consisting of lecturers, students, and administrative staff, will cycle 2,000 kilometres to campuses across the Peninsula, starting at the Negeri Sembilan branch and finishing at UiTM Shah Alam on July 2.

“This tour is part of our commitment to understanding the aspirations and hopes of every UiTM branch... and, Insya-Allah, there will be rides in Sabah and Sarawak as well to cover all our campuses.

… it also symbolises our commitment to continue striving to uphold and empower this revered university to remain relevant to the needs of the nation and its people,” he said during the flagging off. 

Shahrin said the event will also be graced by the special participation of the Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who will join the ride in UiTM Perlis on June 28.

He added that the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will participate in the closing ride from UiTM Puncak Alam to UiTM Shah Alam on July 2.
